There is a great new download from Microsoft titled “Microsoft Office SharePoint Portal Server 2003 Discovery Kit” and I must admit, it has something in it that us sysadmins could definitely use!
download the file here
Extract that and browse to SPS 2003-Discovery Kit-Sample Code-1-0-26.zip\Discovery Labs\Policies and Procedures and check out the document called SPSPerfNote.doc
If your environment has MOM2005 or you just want to see really good detail on performance monitoring of your sharepoint environment (perhaps a baseline for sql/asp.net apps) this will definitely help.
Of course my goal is to do all of this type of monitoring without an agent - a follow up with my experiences will be posted soon...
First off, thank you to mindsharp for allowing me the opportunity to have a place to put my thoughts and findings.
About Me:
Well, im not really a developer, per se, more of a Applications Administrator/Architect (so my job title says TODAY). Im also percieved a lot of times as the glue between developers and IT with a specialty in source control and setting up development environments (sandbox -> staging -> production style). I have lots of experience in windows, openbsd, linux (namely gentoo). Some applications I manage Oracle Database, SQL servers, IIS, Apache, Subversion, Deltek, Hyperion, PeopleSoft, Qmail/Postfix, Exchange Server, LCS, MOM and Veritas NBU.
My emphasis is on Best Practices approach with ease of management and proactive monitoring.
Enjoy!
